3 Tips for Finding a Lost Animal

Animals can become lost for a variety of reasons. In addition to the obvious of getting scared, wandering too far, neglect or abuse, sometimes animals will leave a perfectly good home. The reason for this is individual. Just as humans make their own choices and sometimes need change, so do animals. There can be many reasons an animal may choose to leave some of which include too many animals in the home, a calling or desire for a new family or person due to either a completed purpose with the original person or a change in purpose or the “path” of the animal. Animals, of course, have soul purposes or soul paths just like humans, and if they are completed or not fulfilling them, they will want to make a change in order to get back on track. In this case, one should not feel their animal did not love them, as that is probably not true, but that their animal has done all the work possible with them and it is simply time to move on. Although this can happen, often animals are really lost and do need help finding their way home.

No matter what the reasons, this is a stressful and difficult time for everyone. There are some things a person can do in order to increase the chances of finding their animal companion. Hiring an animal communicator or a trusted psychic to help locate them is a good idea. Often people hire animal communicators as a last resort, however by waiting the chances of reunion do go down. An animal communicator can help by asking the animal about their surroundings and can get anything from general to very specific detail about what the animal sees, hears, smells, and even what direction they went in. Usually the first question to ask is if the animal has transitioned out of body and if not do they want to be found. Another good tool some animal communicators use is map dowsing, in which by connecting in with the animal via a pendulum the energy of the animal can be located on the map.

While hiring an animal communicator is helpful, an honest one will never guarantee a reunion with your animal. However, there are steps you can take to increase chances of reunion. Some of these include:

  1. Create a poster and laminate it. Make it colorful and use a good color photograph or you animal. Indicate if the animal is wearing a collar or is microchipped. Offer a reward and make that stand out on the poster, people will be more likely to notice. Post it all around where you live.  If people call you saying they have your animal ask them to describe a specific detail about the animal so your time and energy is not wasted.
  2. Walking and driving around to look is fine, but be aware that if you call out for your animal while you are in motion, this could further confuse them. It is better to call loudly from your home and look silently. Though the temptation to call out while on the move is strong, try to resist it. Instead listen, especially if you are in the woods where you might hear movement. If you do, it may be worth it to call out at this point, but just do so cautiously.
  3.  In addition to calling the local humane society and shelters, make sure to call the local Veterinarians and alert them as well. That way, if someone brings in an injured animal without an ID the Vet will be able to call you. You can also place an ad in the newspaper as they are usually free.

A missing animal can be a very difficult and traumatic experience, but taking immediate action can greatly increase the chances they will come home or be found. Vets see more dogs snarfing humans’ medical pot

Consuming the drug can be harmful but rarely fatal

By Dale Rodebaugh Herald Staff Writer

Some veterinarians in Durango have seen a spike in the number of dogs poisoned by marijuana since the proliferation of medical marijuana dispensaries made the drug more accessible.

“We used to see maybe one case a year,” said Stacee Santi, a veterinarian at Riverview Animal Hospital. “Now we’re seeing a couple a month.”

Dogs can be exposed to marijuana through smoke or eating cannabis-laced foodstuffs.

Recently, a large-breed dog was brought to the hospital stumbling, dribbling urine and exhibiting the classic symptoms of dilated eyes and slow heart beat, Santi said.

“We induced vomiting, and up came a 3-by-3-foot piece of cheesecloth,” Santi said. “The cheesecloth could have been used to strain marijuana butter.”

The butter, once infused with cannabis, can be used to make baked goods such as brownies.

Jennifer Schoedler, a veterinarian at Alpine Animal Hospital, has seen incidents of dogs getting into marijuana since she came to Durango in 1998.

“Dogs love the stuff,” Schoedler said. “I’ve seen them eat the buds, plants, joints and marijuana in food.”

Just as the caffeine and theobromine in chocolate are safe to humans but poisonous to dogs, so is marijuana, Schoedler said. The darker the chocolate, the more pronounced the toxicity can be.

The level of intoxication varies according to the size of the dog and concentration of marijuana, she said. It almost always requires a stay in the hospital, she said.

Eric Barchas, a veterinarian in San Francisco, says on his website that he treats “stoned dogs” on a regular basis.

“Serious, long-term health consequences and fatality from marijuana intoxication are essentially unheard of,” Barchas writes on his site. “However, pets that are exposed to marijuana may display anxiety and are prone to ‘bad trips.’ They may lack the coordination to consume food and water.”

Makenzie Rennick at Durango Animal Hospital said the clinic hasn’t seen any marijuana-ingesting dogs recently but had four or five during the summer.

“We don’t know where they got the marijuana,” Rennick said. “It could have been where they live or someplace else in the neighborhood.”

Other prescription and over-the-counter medications also are a threat to pets. The American Veterinary Medicine Association and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have joined forces to prevent pets from ingesting household medicines and to keep out-of-date or unwanted medicines out of waterways,

The effort aims to educate people about proper storage and disposal of medicines. The animal poison control center of the Association for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals reports that medicine for humans was the leading cause of toxicity in pets in 2010.

My Path as a Healer

Healer PathI grew up in Milford, NH, and spent time in Maine and Connecticut as a kid. My parents divorced when I was 6. Childhood for my sister and I was difficult. I tell you this because it is made me who I am. I always knew there must be more and I had a deep calling in my heart. I felt the constant beckoning to heal, both myself and hopefully others. My father, whom I adored, spent time with us on the weekends. He took us to visit the natural wonders of New England, and we often camped and hiked. His wisdom and teachings planted the seeds in me to want to also be a wise and ethical person. He taught us about spirituality and emotional stability. I cherished my father and our time together, just the three of us. It was when I was the happiest.

For many years, I dabbled in my own healing. But as I got older the call got louder. I completed one challenging and rewarding year at Naropa University Graduate school for Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with a focus in Art Therapy. But it was not my final calling. I moved on.

After many modalities of training in Yoga and spirit work, I still wasn’t satisfied. Slowly I was learning about Animal Communication and beginning to see how my cats had a greater purpose with me. They were teaching me all the time, and holding the space for my healing and growth.

On October 28th, 2008 my father died one night in his sleep. We never were given a physical cause of death. I had no choice but to make spiritual sense of it. While this was the most difficult experience of my life, some blessings did follow. I learned to cope and deal with his death in ways I never thought possible of myself. I was sure if he ever died it would be the end of my life. But that wasn’t the case. I discovered it was still possible to have a relationship with him in spirit form, and though it would never be the same as having him here on Earth, it was a comfort nonetheless. I found my heart had broken open so wide that it healed bigger and better than before. Through this great loss I found myself.

I travmeditationeled to Mexico to grieve and had some great discoveries. One was that I really didn’t believe in the boundaries of physicality, and reinforced my awareness and trust that my father would always be with me. This is the process that has led me to be able to help people who are grieving the loss of their animals friends. I can help them through the grief and to a new way and a healing heart.

After this trip I began an apprenticeship with Laurie Levity Laughing Star and learned the ways of the medicine woman. But what that really meant for me was facing my demons, finding my heart, and becoming myself. I attribute my ability to do that to the support of my loved ones and other healers in my life.

After my father’s memorial ceremony I flew home to Colorado. I was a seasoned, stronger, and wiser woman then before, and finally began to call myself a healer. It was then that my life as an animal communicator really began.

Heart Energy

How does Animal Communication relate to the heart? An open and clear heart is a foundation for clear communication with animals. One does not need to be perfect to practice Animal Communication, but there is a certain level of open heartedness and clarity one must possess to be able to accurately receive and give messages with the animals. Not only that, but having a healthy and healed
or healing heart is fundamental to having other healthy relationships in our lives. With both people and animals, the more open our hearts the more we are able to effectively communicate with others and understand our own feelings. This kind of self understanding helps us have more harmony in the home and in our lives. Please check out this article written by my father about the heart. He
explains the basic physiology of the heart and compares the understandings of the “east” and the “west” giving us a holistic look at the heart and heart energy. This gives us a deeper understanding of the workings of this very important organ and energetic center of our bodies and our lives. My father passed away unexpectedly 3 years ago and so I publish this in his honor and in hopes to share his gentle wisdom with as many people as possible.

4 Goals of an Animal Communication Session with Heather Brennison

1. You will see your animal as a more equal and complete being and experience a deeper bond and sense of unity between you.
2. You will feel a deeper sense of oneness which means connection to all life, and a feeling of unity with the life force or source.
3. You will better understand the current situation, behavior, or tension if there is any, and if not at least a deeper understanding of your animal.
4. There will be healing for you, your animal, and more harmony in your household. This may include releasing trauma, anxiety, fear, and/or guilt, and movement through grief and loss. This level of healing results in connection with your true authentic self which is often what our dear animals are working to teach us!

Working with Healers over the Phone

As an Animal Communicator, I am able to offer my services either long distance on the phone or in person. This is because it is energy based work. Energy is non-local. “By Non-locality we mean that energy is not bound by time and / or space. And different energy applications such as spiritual healing, positive thoughts and prayers transcend time and space.” (Leor Noham) This is the foundation for the “Law of Attraction” that is becoming more popular as our planet and its’ inhabitants evolve.
Some people who have never done any healing work over the phone may be concerned that it is more difficult to connect with the healer. While you absolutely have to resonate with the healer you work with, keep in mind the ulitmate goal of any healing work, even animal communication, is to connect with yourself and in this case your animal. I have many years of working with some of my favorite healers over the phone. In my experience, if the person is good at what they do and is someone you would connect with off the phone or in a preliminary discussion, than you will find a phone sesion just as valuable. I am competent at working with clients over the phone, and have never had a client say that they felt the session was of less quality or that they felt less connected working over the phone. Often healers can charge less money working over the phone because there is no additonal driving time or cost. So if you are considering working with a healer over the phone but aren’t sure you will get your money’s worth; give it a try! Ask the person a few preliminary questions before you schedule a sesison to determine how you feel about them, if you get a good feeling and this is a trusted and credible healer, you will have nothing to lose!

Message from an Animal Friend

This was a client of mine from over a year ago who was concerned about leaving her dog alone too often. Her dog was not neglected, she was cared for on these nights and mornings by a neighbor, but slept alone at her own house one or two nights a week. Not all dogs would be ok with this, it is not recommended unless your animal is cared for and feels emotionally cared for, however, this dog was ok with it. This is what he said, “I have plenty of friends here. At night I sit with the elders (spirits) and comprehend the stars. I enjoy this. Guilt is a waste of time. I am fine. Nothing is permanent anyway. I want (my person) to be happy.”
